John C. McCarthy is an associate professor and associate dean, in the School of Philosophy at the Catholic University of America, where he teaches both undergraduate and graduate students. His publications include essays on reductionism in modern natural science, the relation between human reason and Christian faith, the origins of early modern philosophy, and, in Italian, “virtue ethics.” He is also the editor of a collection of essays on the Enlightenment, Modern Enlightenment and the Rule of Reason (The Catholic University of America Press, 1998).
